Friends, this series of articles will help us to fully appreciate the blessings of God’s Seven Covenants. These Covenants/Promises disclose God’s master plan to rescue Mankind from sin and death. Each covenant builds on the previous one, revealing God’s plan and purpose for Mankind.
Here are the covenants in order as they appear in scripture: Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Palestinian, Mosaic, Davidic, and New Covenant. Four of these covenants were specifically given to God’s chosen people, Israel; however, they have blessings for everyone, but more on that later.
What is a covenant? It’s a formal declaration/agreement between two parties, God and Mankind, with certain obligations and regulations. Why are these covenants important? Because they have profound implications for our lives. I will attempt to describe each Covenant in simple terms so that we can fully address its importance! The first of the Seven Covenants is the Adamic Covenant, named after Adam, because it began in the Garden of Eden, where God created Adam and Eve, Mankind’s parents. Remember, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, plunging mankind into sin and death. However, God would send His redeemer—Jesus.
Adamic covenant details: Gen 1:26-28
- Mankind (male & female) was created in the image of God.
- Mankind was to rule over the animals.
- Mankind was to reproduce and inhabit the entire earth.
This covenant tells us that God created us with a physical body and in His spiritual image and likeness! Now, that should strengthen our faith, knowing we have been blessed and highly favored! Ponder this, we have also been given special work to do for God—truly amazing! Let us break down the Adamic covenant so that we can actually, with humility, search and understand the mind of God.
God’s Image and Likeness:
- God gave us abilities to think, reason, and make independent decisions and moral choices that will bring Him glory (1st Pet 4:10-11, Rom 12:6-7, 1st Cor 12:4-11).
- God created us to reflect the divine attributes that glorify Him (Isa 43:7).
Rule over animals:
- We’re to graciously govern, manage, protect, care for, and watch over the animal kingdom (Prov 12:10, Ps 8:4-8, Deut 22:4, 25:4). Don’t we love our pets and animals? Well, guess what, God gives us that love.
Inhabit the entire earth:
- The fulfillment of God’s eternal plan is to populate the entire earth with mankind, displaying His glory worldwide (Acts 17:26).
- God’s glory is displayed throughout the heavens and earth. “The heavens (with its vastness & magnificent heavenly bodies) declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork (earth’s beauty)” Ps 19:1.
Friends, God wants us to share in His glory. Jesus’ gift of eternal life, through faith in Him, will give us His love, joy, and peace, and God will pour out His glory upon us. “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory” Isa 6:3.
Rejoice in God’s Glory
Shalom, Chris
